Normally these IP addresses are usually rotated by your ISP (internet provider) every time you restart the router or from time to time. These IP addresses are known as dynamic IP addresses. If for some reason we need to have a static or fixed IP address for a device, we must contact the ISP and request that they put it manually. The IP address is assigned automatically by your router using a protocol called DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol.) The word 'Dynamic' means it can change at any time, so your printer's IP might be different every time you check it. Many people don't know that networked devices can also have a 'static' - i.e., fixed - IP address. What is an IP address? Your internet service provider assigns a numeric label, called the Internet Protocol (IP) address, to identify your device among billions of others. In a way, an IP address functions as an online home address because devices use IPs to find and communicate with each other.
